"Bringing Cuban doctors to Vietnam for medical examination and treatment" is one of the contents discussed at the medical cooperation conference between Cuba and Ho Chi Minh City on the afternoon of May 16.
This is an activity in the framework of the working visit of the Cuban Ministry of Health delegation led by Deputy Minister Marcia Cobas Ruiz in Vietnam. The workshop was organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Trade and Investment Promotion Center (ITPC) with the participation of leaders of 32 provincial and municipal Health Departments.
At the seminar, Ms. Marcia Cobas Ruiz, Deputy Minister of Health of Cuba, said that in 1959, when the National Liberation Revolution was successful, Cuba had only 6,000 doctors but half of them migrated. to America.
Over 60 years of efforts to build advanced and modern health care, Cuba now has 90,000 doctors at the rate of 8.2 doctors / 1,000 people. Health in Cuba is completely free and there are about 30,000 health care workers in the community. Notably, besides developing medical tourism, Cuba has exported doctors to work in 63 countries around the world.
Vietnam is a country with a strong friendship as a brother to Cuba so far, therefore, Vietnam is a Cuban country wishing to have cooperative programs to bring doctors to work in the future. .
Welcoming the idea of cooperation of the Deputy Minister of Health of Cuba, Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health Nguyen Huu Hung stated, Ho Chi Minh City will be the pioneer in Vietnam to receive Cuban doctors to working at medical facilities in the area, first of all private health facilities.

In the future, Ho Chi Minh City is expected to build a series of private polyclinics directly examined and treated by Cuban doctors. Currently, Ho Chi Minh City has only 18 doctors / 10,000 people, very much in need of doctors' resources from Cuba. The city also wishes to have exchanges and cooperation with Cuba in the exchange and training of high quality health human resources in the coming time.
Along with Ho Chi Minh City, leaders of the Health Department of Ben Tre, Ninh Thuan and Dong Nai provinces also expressed their desire to receive Cuban doctors to their localities, because of the human resources needs of the health sector provinces and cities, especially high-quality health workers are very urgent.
